BUFFALO CHIP, SD. When ZZ Top’s management called the Legendary Buffalo Chip to book the band for their historic tour celebrating 40 years in rock, they called the Buffalo Chip’s audience was the reason. “Your people are our people,” is what they told us, said Rod Woodruff, campground owner.

The band will play Monday, Aug. 9 for campers at the legendary party venue.

ZZ Top’s Buffalo Chip performance will also be the featured entertainment for riders in the Buffalo Chip’s 3rd Annual Legends Ride for charity. The 2009 ride raised $61,600 for the Black Hills Childrens Home Society and the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum, and featured performances by Toby Keith and Lita Ford.

ZZ_TopWe are truly honored that rock icons like ZZ Top chose the Buffalo Chip as one of the venues they’ll play in 2010 to celebrate their 40 years of entertaining. The Buffalo Chip’s campers are the bulls-eye target audience for a party band like ZZ Top, said campground owner Rod Woodruff. The concert will provide a special treat for the folks who participate in the 2010 Legends Ride.

Formed in Houston in 1970, ZZ Top’s Billy Gibbons, Dusty Hill and Frank Beard became That Little Ol’ Band From Texas, and have maintained the high standard of music quality and stage performance that has earned them a place in the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame.

buffalo_chipstageFrom their first hit, ‘Francene’ through to today, they have generated some of rock’s greatest southern rock boogie anthems, including Tush, La Grange, Gimme All Your Lovin’, Sharp Dressed Man, Pearl Necklace, Velcro Fly, Legs, and many more.

Their popularity soared in the 1980s when they became the rough-edged darlings of MTV with break-out videos for Legs, Sharp Dressed Man, and Rough Boy. Included in those videos was the now famous Eliminator hot rod, which was morphed into a souped up space shuttle for Rough Boy.

Gibbon’s and Hill’s chest-length beards, as well as the sheer quality of their music have made them favorites in the biker community. The Legendary Buffalo Chip is about the party. We want people to come for their vacations and have the time of their life. ZZ Top defines party. There can be no serious discussion of party music that does not include the bulk of ZZ Top’s extensive library of hits, said Woodruff. A ZZ Top concert is the perfect way to kick off the 70th Annual Sturgis Rally. It’s just going to be a blast.
