You see them on the local roads and highways, at the local saloons and hangouts, and just cruising the local hot spots. More women are moving to the rider’s saddle, and we men love it! Harley-Davidson has recognized this shift, too. Having spent a lot of money in recognizing them, Harley hopes to capitalize on this rapidly growing group of riders… Women Riders.
Women riders share all the same challenges that men riders do, but have a few of their own. This especially relates to the average size and strength of women riders. I believe that this is the primary reason that so many women riders opt for Sportsters, or even Softails instead of the larger touring bikes such as Streetglides or Ultra Classics.
Well, if you want a straight answer, where better to go than to an expert. If you don’t know her already, allow me to introduce you to Genevieve Schmidt. Genevieve is the editor of Women Riders Now, an online emagazine dedicated to women motorcycling enthusiasts. She has written a number of very good articles on her site at http://www.womenridersnow.com, and always has a lot of good information for women riders.
I was especially drawn to her article “Genevieve Joins the Bagger Brigade”. She shows a lot of insight on setting up a bagger that is fit for a woman rider.
Take a look at her website, and don’t forget to check out the article I mentioned here. And tell her Coach says hi!
